2nd Lieutenant L. Okkema
My military career started in 1984 when I joined the 59 LHRCACC. After my 5th year I left the Corps with the rank of Master Warrant Officer.
My cadet career gave me valuable life lessons and prepared me for the real world. After graduating College in London, Ont I pursued a career in Customer Service which led me down several avenues where now I work as a Culinary Artist in a local TeaRoom. I have two beautiful daughters, son-in-law, and one handsome grandson.
In 2010 I joined the 59 Corps again, this time as a volunteer. For the first time in nearly 3 decades did I feel that I was once again making a difference in the lives of our local youth. In March of 2015 I was sworn in as a CIC officer and then spent the summer at Blackdown CSTC teaching in excess of 60 youth from all different parts of Ontario. I was promoted to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in March 2016. As a parent I can honestly tell you that our Officers are doing our best to mentor your child should they join Army Cadets. “They” said it would only be one night a week and occasional weekend…Most CIC officers will tell you that it is now the biggest part of their life!
